A huge thank you to all attendees who made the ILTS 2019 Congress in Toronto a great success!

ILTS is working to increase the value of the annual congress for all delegates. It is critical to get feedback on your experience at the congress, so we would like to extend a big thank you to all of you for taking the time to fill out the survey!

We also wish to express our appreciation to our sponsors Novartis and Astellas, supporters Lupin and TransMedics, as well as the exhibitors for their kind contributions. With the support of these partners, we were able to deliver a number of novel Congress features such as the Pre-Meeting Symposium on Transplant Oncology, offsite Organ Perfusion Workshops, and the new “Innovations in Biotechnology” session (which will be renamed in 2021 to better reflect all innovations in medicine).

We would like to share general information and feedback, as well as introduce the new features that The 2021 Joint International Congress of ILTS, ELITA and LICAGE will offer:

Delegates at ILTS 2019

1,136 delegates from 50 countries participated in ILTS 2019 – it’s great so many of you came to Toronto! The top three countries represented among the delegates were the United States, China and Korea.

Liver Transplantation is a broad field. The ILTS Congress attracts a range of specialists, most of them working as surgeons, anesthesiologists/in critical care, and as hepatologists.

Sessions at ILTS 2019

ILTS 2019 featured 59 Sessions and 170 Oral Presentations in total. Among them the

  • Rising Star Plenary Session,
  • State of the Art Sessions,
  • Vanguard Symposium on managing a recipient with diffuse portal vein thrombosis

had the highest attendance.

Of the 900 abstracts submitted, the ILTS Scientific Committee selected 650 among them for poster presentations. 372 posters were uploaded on the ePoster system. The most frequently viewed topics were: Comorbidities and Complications, Anesthesia, and Critical Care Medicine.

The moderated Vanguard Poster Sessions proved especially popular with 2019 delegates.

Workshops at ILTS 2019

The first Liver Perfusion Workshop, initiated and organized by Markus Selzner, was very well received and sold out quickly. It brought together industry and liver transplant experts for a hands-on demonstration of liver perfusion technology. Bridge to Life, OrganOx and TransMedics, all industry leaders in this field, demonstrated their machines with live porcine liver perfusion.

Networking

Networking is an important component of the ILTS meeting. In Toronto, we offered several opportunities for connecting with colleagues, like the Opening Reception, the Vanguard Reception and the Closing Reception, which were highly appreciated by the delegates.

The App

For the first time, the ILTS 2019 App completely replaced the printed program book. The transition was very well received, as the ILTS 2019 App displayed the conference schedule, all abstracts, and posters, while allowing attendees to personalize their on-site experience. The App was synchronized with the online scientific program, enabling last-minute updates and changes and ensuring that all users were up-to-date.
