Dr. Ryutaro Hirose, MD is a clinically active abdominal transplant surgeon and Professor in Clinical Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. His interests include ischemia-reperfusion injury, deceased donor research, surgical education, organ allocation policy, and quality improvement.

He has served as Chair of the UNOS Liver Intestinal Transplantation committee, and has recently been appointed Surgical Director of the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients. He has also helped to spearhead the development of a joint ACS/ASTS National Transplant QI program (NSQIP Transplant).
