Dr. Mitra Nadim is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. She is a nephrologist who specializes in ICU nephrology with specific interest in the management of cirrhotic patients with acute kidney injury. She has organized 3 international consensus meetings which have resulted in significant contribution to the field of hepatology and liver transplantation. These meetings included defining Acute kidney injury in patients with cirrhosis and re-defining hepatorenal syndrome, development of guidelines for indications for simultaneous liver-kidney transplantation and ICU management of critically ill patients with end-stage liver disease. She is currently on the AASLD guidelines writing committee for HRS and Ascites. She is a member of several International committees including the Scientific committee of International Club of Ascites, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine Acute Kidney Injury Section, and Acute Disease Quality Initiative, which is an International organization whose intent is to provide an objective, dispassionate distillation of the literature and description of the current state of practice of diagnosis and management of acute kidney injury. She is the author of more than 50 articles, reviews and book chapters and has lectured internationally on this topic.
